I don't regularly drink Zinfandel. More often than not it totally overwhelms my palate and I say that even as a regular drinker of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
But there are exceptions! This lovely old-school California Zin is made from grapes grown closer to Sacramento, east and inland from San Pablo Bay. The slightly cooler climate and California sunshine produce a wine that tastes like it's in total harmony. You get some fruit, yes, but this is very well balanced. And, frankly, better than a lot of the more famous Zinfandels made by the likes of Turley and Ridge.
If you're unfamiliar with high quality Zin or haven't tried it in a while, this is a great one to open.
100% Zinfandel. Serve cool.
