As I note in the description for the Grosjean Gamay, the Vallee d'Aoste is an Italian region that is as much French and/or Swiss as anything else. A peculiar but beautiful part of the world that I would very much like to visit.
Like most alpine reds, this is pale in color and highly aromatic. But it has really pretty red cherry, floral, and spice notes that I find totally compelling. Every once in a while it pays to try something new, and you could do a lot worse than this. I have to admit this definitely tastes more French, even Burgundian, than Italian, but either way it's great.
80% Petit Rouge with other local varieties. Definitely serve chilled.
