The vineyards of Bandol form a sort of rocky amphitheater overlooking the Mediterranean. The rose made here is among the very best in the world. The reds, however, are not typically very easygoing in their youth. My own experience with the wines leads me to believe they typically need at least five years of bottle age before they're ready to drink.
Not so with this find from a recent importer tasting. This was the last wine I tasted and my favorite out of the thirty or so reds on the table. Dark fruits, figs, spice, and Provencal herb notes. It's not a shy wine but comes across as very refined and elegant.
Cellar this if you'd like but what a treat it is today. 95% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah. Serve cool.
