Few names in wine will make a sommelier's mouth water faster than Paolo Bea. It's sort of a touchstone to taste and learn the wines, if only so you aren't staring at your shoes when another some asks your opinion on the wines.
They are unquestionably great. So much so that I'm surprised they make it to our market. They age well, but this particular bottle is entering its drinking window, especially with a decant. I only received three bottles in this vintage! Vinous note below.
70% Sangiovese, 15% Montepulciano, 15% Sagrantino. Serve cool with decant.
"The 2017 Rosso San Valentino is an exotic beauty, mixing hints of blood orange with wild berries and balsam herbs. It washes across the palate with silky textures and polished red and black fruits that leave a staining of minerals, all nicely balanced by a twang of zesty citrus. It finishes lightly structured and incredibly long; a hint of primary concentration creates a cheek-puckering sensation. The 2017 is a spectacular vintage. 93"
