If you held a gun to my head and asked me what the greatest Champagne in the world is, I think this would be it. Krug's single vineyard Champagnes (Clos du Mesnil and Clos d'Ambonnay) are the most expensive Champagnes in the world, retailing for $1,000 and $3,000, respectively.
Having tasted both, I still think this is the most beautiful Champagne ever created. I don't know that I've ever encountered a wine that is so exotic, and yet so refined at the same time. This is like an avalanche of pure berry fruit, spice, and flowers on both the nose and palate.
When I was courting my wife I would buy this in half bottles and open them for lunch on Sundays. It worked.
Does a $440 bottle of Champagne make a lot of sense? Maybe not, but you could always pay your power bill later. In any case, this wine is life changing.
