This is my new favorite all-purpose Italian red. If I said "I really want a glass of Italian red" and someone handed me this, I would be completely satisfied.
This is a blend of mostly Barbera with a little bit of Bonarda (apparently totally unrelated to the "Bonarda" that's often blended with Malbec in Argentina). This is delicious, as well as rounder and fruitier than the Barbera that traditionally comes from the Piedmont. It has that mix of fruit and acidity that almost every Italian red does. The winery website lists "myrtle" as a tasting note, which has me totally confused. But mostly this is just red and black cherries and a little bit of earth tones. The point is that it all comes together into a sort of Platonic ideal of Italian red.
70% Barbera, 30% "Bonarda". Serve cool.
