As a category, Napa Valley Cabernet is very expensive. Land here routinely sells for more than $500,000 per acre and those costs are reflected in the wine pricing. Chappellet produces extremely age worthy Cabernet high up on Pritchard Hill that retails for as much as $200 per bottle. Their entry level "Mountain Cuvée" is made using fruit from the same vineyards used for the flagship wine, but in a style that is more approachable in its youth. The Mountain Cuvée is a Cab-based blend that gets my vote as the best value in Napa Valley today. 44% Cabernet, 33% Merlot, 23% Malbec/Petit Verdot/Cab Franc. Serve cool.
