Yves Cuilleron is a benchmark estate in France's Northern Rhone Valley. This is the ancestral home of Syrah, and although Cuilleron turns out very expensive wines from Cote-Rotie and elsewhere, this little regional Syrah from vines situated around the winery itself is a perennial value.
This is for the old school Syrah lover and has lots of black pepper, blackberry, and spice notes. Syrah like this can only made in the Rhone, and frankly it's much better with a steak than Cabernet ever could be.
