From Austria. I had the opportunity to taste with this winemaker last week and really enjoyed their wines. Most were Rieslings, but we also tasted an example of the grape Zweigelt, which is by far Austria’s best known red grape (even if it’s not well known closer to home). This is a really fun alternative to Beaujolais if you’re looking for something different. It has the same structure as Beaujolais, with bright fruit, cranberry notes, and punchy acidity. Like Beaujolais I would also serve this slightly chilled. Yum.
100% Zweigelt. Serve slightly chilled.
