Yes, I know it's a mouthful...
But if you love traditional Italian wines like Barolo or Chianti I don't see how you couldn't love this wine. The Schioppettino grape very nearly went extinct until it was saved by the Rapuzzi family that owns this winery. There were fewer than sixty vines left in the world, as this variety was only grown in the tiny and isolated Cialla Valley. Lucky for us they were able to take cuttings and now the variety is relatively stable in size, albeit still only produced in this tiny corner of Italy.
This is basically a riserva and has extensive bottle aging. Super elegant, complex and aristocratic, with notes of red fruits like currants and a subtle spiciness.
Very fine indeed.
100% Schioppettino. Serve cool.
